Apartment Cooling Time

One day sitting at home with a broken foot, I was wondering what would take longer: walking over to the thermostat to change the temperature, or my apartment actually cooling down. I decided to spend that couch-ridden afternoon figuring it out in Matlab.

The analysis assumes a constant volume of air in the room, and that the air leaving the room is equal to the average temperature across the room at that time.
